Guys Behind the Blog is BACK!

I have some very exciting news!! One of my favourite link-ups from blogland is back!

I used to participate in the Guys Behind The Blog link-up on a regular basis. It's where I interview Mike with 5 questions and post his answers. I always loved hearing what he had to say. So when I found out that the series was getting cancelled, I was really bummed!

If you remember last month, I tried to revamp the series on my own called The Mike Drop, but then Elizabeth from Chasin Mason suggested that we carry on the actual link-up. She contacted the original hosts for their blessing and rounded up some other amazing bloggers to host the link up. So next week,  Crystal from Hall Around TexasElizabeth from Chasin MasonJamie from Cocktails and CarseatsJessica from Secrets of a Stay at Home Mom, and I are officially going live!

The Guys Behind The Blog link-up will be posted the last Thursday of every month and our first official link-up will be next month on October 27th. Grab that first graphic up top, interview your man and join us for the party! You can have him type out his answers (that's what I do), ask him slyly, or flat out record him. It's up to you! 


The questions for next month are:

9 Years Later

Yesterday was September 27th. Nine years ago, Mike asked me to be his girlfriend and our lives were changed forever.

We like to celebrate this day because it's always fun to look back on how much times have changed over the years. Mike surprised me with a gorgeous bouquet of red roses and the sweetest card.

Every year we go back to visit the place where we first met and fell in love. McMaster University holds such a warm place in our hearts. We usually just go to dinner and walk around the campus but this year we happened to catch trivia night too. Mike is a huge bar trivia fan and we ended up placing third! Not bad since we were a team of two and everyone else had at least triple the amount of players! Our team name is Michelina, aka our celeb couple name. #obvi

After dinner, we walked around campus and chatted about what it was like back when we were students. Even though we go every year, so much has changed since we were there last! It was pretty dark by the time we got out so the pictures don't do it justice but the campus is so beautiful in the fall!

After we came home, we winded down with the new episode of This Is Us and foot massages. I think it was a pretty perfect day!

C u r r e n t l y

Gosh it's been a minute since I wrote a proper update on things. The easiest way I could think to do so is a good ol' fashioned Currently post.
I am struggling to not buy more of Kylie's lip kits. I got my first one last week and I'm obsessed. I think I'll write a review post about it after a few more uses. Spoiler alert, so far it's amazing.

Work work work work work.

Still dreaming about moving. I would ideally like to build a new house through a builder and apparently a new phase will be released in our preferred area in a few months. We don't need to move any time soon so a long closing would work perfectly. But with housing prices soaring at an insane pace, I am nervous about the price points!

It's 50/50 between PSLs (where are the fall cups?) and Booster Juice smoothies (Canada's answer to Jamba Juice)

I am obsessed with chicken pot pies from Costco lately. It's the best one I have ever tried and you can't beat the price! Now we just need to renew our membership...

Young House Love has a Podcast. That's the name of the podcast. I was a total fangirl of YHL so I'm ecstatic that John and Sherry are back in some form!

Our trip to North Carolina in a few weeks! I love any and all vacations but visiting the South is always a good time. We plan on catching a college football game and drinking sweet tea to our hearts' content.

Amy Schumer's book. I got it as one of the books in my blogger swap. I love it and it made me really like her. There's so much more to her than just her jokes! I recommend.

I watched the first episode of This Is Us last night. Oh my gosh. Incredible. This show already has me hooked and I've only seen one episode! Has anyone else seen it?

My work has a casual dress code during the summer months so we are back to normal office attire now and I'm so excited! My wardrobe basically consists of summer dresses, comfy sweats, and work clothes. I find it really challenging to dress "down" but still office appropriate. Plus dress pants are way more comfortable than jeans. #ihatejeans

That the construction on my street won't last long. I know it'll be much better when it's done but I want to be able to park in my driveway!

If my eye infection is actually healed. It was pretty bad last week and today was the first day I wore contacts for an extended period of time. They still don't feel 100% but at least I can see when I apply my makeup!

Weekending - The First of Fall!

Happy first weekend of fall y'all! It legitimately felt like fall in my neck of the woods so I got to put on a scarf and a sweater while drinking a PSL and taking snaps of mums. #asbasicasitgets Except I didn't save the snap. Oh well.

This weekend my mom and brother came over and we had three fun days together. We spent some time playing Uno, playing Pokemon Go, and baking cookies.

I also put together a little worksheet for Philip to colour in a map of the states. I printed out a blank map of the United States so that Philip could colour in the states whose license plates we saw on our road trip to Pittsburgh. If you didn't catch that post, we went a few weeks ago as a family and had such a great time! We saw 39 different plates and I thought this would be a good way for him to learn where each state was geographically and what its corresponding abbreviation was. He also picked a team's colours for each state!

Philip is in such a fun season of life and I love spending time with him. He's so curious and cheerful and the best brother I could ask for.

We all watched the UNC football game and it was the craziest game I have ever seen! They were down all game and then came back to win the last two seconds. It was seriously incredible!!

On Sunday, we spent some time out in the backyard doing yard work. Now that summer has wrapped up, it was mostly cleanup but it's so much more enjoyable when my mom is there to help me out!

Afterwards we took a well deserved trip to Winners for a little shopping while the boys watched football. I got a cute poncho that I can't wait to wear when it really cools down! It's not Burberry but has a similar pattern. Lenny approves.

Mike is SUPER excited because he managed to get a pair of Yeezys when they released Saturday morning. Yeezys are huge in the sneaker world and very highly sought after. Like, people camp out for them for a week prior. He entered in countless raffles and lotteries to no avail. He heard a tip that this website would be randomly releasing them in the middle of the night so he woke up suuuuper early to get them. It let him successfully check out but when he went back in a couple seconds later, they were all gone. Insane. #happyhubby

This week we will be celebrating our dating anniversary (9 years!), going across the border to pick up a couple items to our mailbox, and Mike is participating in a big trivia night for charity!

Olive You Fall

Happy first official day of fall!!! I have embraced all things fall big time for a few weeks already. I'm such a seasonal person that I refrain from wearing typically spring/summer stuff during the cooler months. Bring on the jewel tones, knits, and suedes!

And of course, same goes for colours. One of my favourite neutrals to wear during fall is olive. It goes with absolutely everything and is such a nice shade on its own too. I have rounded up some of my favourite olive pieces that have caught my eye.

4 Cities You Have To Visit In Poland

I was so excited when Ashley from The Wandering Weekenders asked me to write a guest post for her while she is vacationing in Europe with her husband! If you don't already follow her on Instagram (@thewanderingweekenders), you have to because her photos are just so gorgeous and they're tempting me to book a flight back there asap! 

As you may know, I went back to Poland recently to visit my family. I was born there and came over when I was a young girl but have visited many times over the years. I am fluent in Polish and chat with my family via Skype on a regular basis. It's such a beautiful country and obviously holds a very special place in my heart. Since I have spent quite a bit of time there and have family all over the country, I know what the must-see places are!

FH Travels: Pittsburgh, PA (September 2016)

Over Labour Day long weekend, my mom, brother, Mike and I took a little road trip to Pittsburgh. Mike and I usually go to Pittsburgh a few times a year and we always talk about it. My mom and brother have never been and always wanted to go with us. The opportunity finally came along and we  went for two days right before my brother had to go back to school (and Mike had to go back to work!)

This trip was especially exciting for Philip, who is 11, because he has been asking to come for a few years. He even did a project on one of the bridges last year! I told him to go online and do a little bit of research on Pittsburgh and find out what are some fun things to do there. And he did just that! He asked to see PNC Park (which we obviously would at the game), Clemente Bridge, Heinz Field, Point State Park, the Duquesne Incline, and University of Pittsburgh. Well done, broski.

But let's start at the beginning. We left early on Sunday morning and made our first stop at the Angola rest area, which is right past Buffalo. It's a frequent stop for us when we travel down the I-90. We finally got ourselves an E-Z pass for tolls which eliminates stopping for tolls. Woo! We're so excited about this because we are always scrambling for change.

Our next stop was in Erie, PA for Krispy Kreme because there are none around us at home. They are my favourite donuts and very, very dangerous!

After that, we drove straight to Pittsburgh for the Pirates game. We walked across the Clemente Bridge (which gets shut down for the game for pedestrians) and walked around the outside of the park before heading in. We took my mom and brother to the exact spot where we got engaged on the riverfront outside of PNC Park. I loved showing them where I had the most romantic moment of my life.

Philip was so excited for the game and was learning all the players in the car. It was a give-away day and Philip got a free hat that he now wears all the time! The view, of course, was absolutely stunning (best view of all the baseball parks!) and I was so excited to share it with my mom and brother too! The Pirates played the Brewers and ended up losing but we all had a great time regardless and the weather was perfect.

Philip got to run the bases after the game and I think that was probably the highlight of the day for him. I took him down to the field and was referred to as his mom on more than one occasion. Haha, nope! That's what happens when there's a 17 year age gap!

After the game, we headed back to Cranberry (where our hotel was) for dinner. We wanted to give my mom and brother the full Pittsburgh experience so we insisted that we eat at Primatis. Primanti Bros is known for their huge sandwiches with coleslaw and fries on them. A must when in the area!

We love staying in Cranberry which is about 20 minutes outside of downtown Pittsburgh. It's a little town that has everything you could possibly want (Target!) without the crazy city prices! This time we stayed at the Marriott and Philip was so excited to stay in "such a fancy hotel." He hasn't experienced too many hotel vacations so it was so funny to me that it was such a big deal to him. He loved the room, the pool, the fountain in the lobby, and free wi-fi! The little things!

The next day was all about sightseeing. Our #1 attraction that we wanted to show them was the Duquesne Incline. Because Pittsburgh is a very hilly city, there's a cable car railway to transport people from Mount Washington to downtown. A lot of people use it as regular public transit but I definitely recommend it as an attraction. It was built in 1877 and has the most beautiful view! Oh, and it costs $5 return per person!

The views from the observation deck at the top of the incline are straight off a postcard. There are three rivers that meet in the heart of the city which means there are tons of bridges and it all makes for a very gorgeous view. You could see the golden triangle, the downtown skyscrapers, and the two sports fields perfectly.

Because the Liberty Bridge was closed, we were forced to take some roundabout routes on Sunday. We kind of just worked with the cardinal directions and guessed our way from point A to point B. And I'm so glad that was the case because there's nothing I love more than blindly exploring a foreign city. We got to see parts of Pittsburgh we have never been to before and it was all so scenic and beautiful!

Our next stop was in the University of Pittsburgh. Because Pitt plays in the same conference as UNC, they seem to always be on our TV and Philip wanted to see where we occasionally go to see the Tar Heels play. Of course, we saw the Petersen Event Centre and leisurely drove through the rest of campus to give them a general idea of what it looked like. It's such a nice campus with beautiful stately buildings.

After that, we slowly starting making our way back home. We stopped in Grove City for a little outlet shopping and then again in Erie for Chick-Fil-A (also because we don't have any locally! Tears.) We listened to fun music in the car and had some great conversation. Overall, I we all had a great time and I know that my mom and brother were so happy to visit Pittsburgh and see how Mike and I travel. I really loved showing them around!
