To Do List: Fall 2015

A new season brings a new list of things to do around the house. Here's how things went in the summer:

1. wash all windows
2. clean BBQ
3. clean kitchen appliances
4. wash garage floor
5. clean inside both cars
6. paint upstairs stairway (we painted the lower half already!)
7. put down fresh mulch
8. reorganize "receipt drawer"
9. reorganize pots + pans cupboard
10. hang pictures around vanity desk
11. take + hang anniversary photo (read about that here)
12. print wedding photo for bedroom frame
13. fix stairs in front of house (almost done!!!!)
14. paint front door (check it out here)
15. water grass regularly
16. fix loose kitchen sink
17. fix Mike's dresser drawer
18. fix faucet in garage
19. fix faucet in backyard
20. art for living room frames

85%! I'll take it! It is a huge help that Mike is off in the summer and has a lot of extra time to tick things off one by one. I am so proud of how much we got done over the summer. Having a list helps so much to stay motivated because I would be really embarrassed to come back three months later with nothing.

Since the summer went so well, I have less things lined up this time around. In the fall, I love to soak in as much outdoor time as possible because I know the warm days are quickly coming to an end. So other than frequent walks to Starbucks for PSLs, here's what I came up with:

1. Fix lawnmower
2. Decorate for fall
3. Prep garden for winter
4. Change furnace filter
5. Wash all windows
6. Take down window screens for the cold months
7. Put away garden hoses
8. Turn off exterior water taps
9. Fix plumbing situation
10. Decorate for Christmas (December 1, technically isn't officially winter yet)
11. Put away all warm weather clothes and shoes
12. Bring patio furniture indoors
13. Empty car trunk from softball season and vacuum.
14. Fix handle on guest bathroom toilet
15. Reorganize pots + pans cupboard
16. Finish front stairs
17. Fix frame in bedroom

Can you think of anything else? What is on your to-do list this fall?

September 27th

Warning: this post contains corny content. Proceed at your own risk.

September 27th is the day that Mike asked me to be his girlfriend.

We met in university when I was in my second year and he was in his third. And since I was 19 and he was 20, we were still at the age where the boyfriend/girlfriend question had to be asked. I remember it like it was yesterday. We were walking through the middle of campus, holding hands when he asked me. I thought it was the sweetest thing ever, and still do.
Since graduating, we have made it a tradition to go back to our campus to celebrate that special day when it all began. We usually have dinner and walk around campus reminiscing about the good old times, and feel really old. Every year we ask ourselves, "Do you think people can tell that we aren't current students? We look about the same age as them, right?" Pffft. I wish.
It is so nostalgic to visit the campus every year. Last year, it happened to be the homecoming football game so we got tickets and sat in the alumni section. This year it was Sunday and unfortunately mostly everything was closed but we sat on a bench and talked about bringing our kids here on our future dating anniversaries. Next year will be a Tuesday (leap year!), and I am trying to convince Mike that we should sit in on a night class.
The past eight years have been so wonderful and I am so grateful that we met as early as we did so that we get to spend more of our lives together. I'm so grateful that we both happened to choose the same school and that our circles of friends intertwined.
We celebrated this day four times and after we got married, we didn't want to stop. I know it's corny but it's one of our little traditions that is just between us and I look forward to it every year.

PS - Let's all just disregard that Mike is supporting a different school through his apparel. Poor planning.

This week has been crazy. To give you an idea, we had dinner at the Costco snackbar twice this week. Yup. We are not winning any nutrition awards over here these days.

We have been doing a minor renovation but because we're such novices, it's a lot for us to handle. We're definitely learning a lot as we go! Homeownership is no joke. Another big time suck has been TV. Embarrassing but true. When we're not running around doing house stuff, we are sitting on the couch catching up on shows. I can't handle all these finales and premieres and our PVR is exploding. (Steve won Big Brother! Discuss.) Oh, and crazy amounts of sports too, which obviously has to be watched live. First world problems.

All of this resulted in an awful blogging schedule. But it's ok. It's Friday and the weekend is just a few hours away!

Hope you have a good one!

It's Fall Y'all!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!

Happy first day of (official) fall, everyone! I say official because let's be honest, I have been celebrating for a couple weeks now. I like to pretend fall starts on September 1st. My jewel-toned nail polishes, plaid shirts, boots, and sweaters have already been on heavy rotation. And my Starbucks app has also felt the extra love with those PSLs.

I take extra deep breaths to soak in the chilly morning air. My mums and fall wreath smile at me every time I come home. Sweater Weather is burning brightly in our living room. The Keurig is ready to make hot chocolate and tea.

Can I be any more cliche? Am I really devoting a whole post to weather? Don't care! I seriously love this time of the year. September and October are where it's at.

Happy Birthday, Fall!

Happy Monday, friends!

Actually, it looks like I didn't hit the publish button so this puppy never went live. So... Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Before we dive too deep into this week and accidentally miss any more days, let's talk weekends. We had beautiful early fall weather this weekend and spent most of it with friends.

We had a little girls night with a couple of Mike's cousins on Friday night. Dirty Dancing is my favourite movie and they love it to so we all got together to watch.

Hi, Johnny Castle. I have seen it hundreds of times and it still never gets old. Best movie!

For a snack, I made brownie s'mores and let me tell you... yum. Elizabeth from Chasin' Mason blogged about it and I just had to give it a try. It was a huge hit and I recommend it!

Saturday = college football and we were glued to the TV watching the UNC game. They won and everyone was happy.

Later, we were out and about running some errands and finally got the first PSL of the season. Well, I did. Mike got the pumpkin spice frappuccino. Apparently Starbucks is using real pumpkin in their recipes but I don't really taste a difference. It is just as delicious as it has always been!

One of our friends is moving to Dublin next month so we went to a going away party for her on Saturday night. It was a surprise party and she had no idea! It was a great time with some great company.
More football! A few friends came over to watch some of the games at our place. There was a lot of fantasy team talk between the boys and lots of reality TV talk between the girls. I didn't make any football themed treats but I did bake these delicious pumpkin cookies. Pumpkin spice with cream cheese chips, to be exact. A dollop of whip cream and everyone was drooling.
What did you do this weekend? Any more fall decorating? We picked up some mums for the front of the house and I can't wait for them to bloom more! They remind me so much of fall.

Hope you're having a great Monday! Tuesday!

Football Pinspiration

Mike has made a significant effort to get me excited about football. UNC football to be exact. UNC is his favourite college basketball team and he fell in love with all of the school's sports. Although we didn't attend, nor live anywhere close to UNC, we managed to go to one of their road games (at Notre Dame) last year and we will be seeing another one later this year.

Mike knows the best way for me to really care about something is to be surrounded by it and get in the spirit. So I have rounded up my favourite pins to get me hyped about football season.

Favourite football snacks:
{stadium}   {pizza}

Favourite football decor:

Favourite UNC apparel:
{Left}   {Right}

Searching through Pinterest for these has really gotten me in the mood for football! Can't wait for Saturday!

(my husband is probably crying tears of joy right now.)

The Story Of Boomer And Lenny

Excuse me while I be a Grandma and blog about my cats for a hot second. Because they need some serious love on here. And because they are just the best. And because I know there are a ton of other animal lovers out there.

Boomer and Lenny were both Mike's cats from way before I knew him. In grade 6, I got a dog and around the same time, Mike got Boomer and Lenny. Of course we didn't know each other back then. But little did I know, my strong dog-person views were going to be swayed more towards the middle in a few years.

When we got married, I brought Neptune and Mike brought Boomer. And we were one big happy family until one very sadsad day (which still makes me tear up when I think about it) when Neptune went to doggie heaven. We could see that Boomer was very lonely being the only pet in the house. He was mopey, clingy, and suddenly extremely vocal. We had to reunite him with his BFF Lenny.

We moved Lenny in and it took him a good long while to get settled. But Boomer was so ecstatic. The second he saw his old friend he wouldn't leave his side. They have always been such a dynamic duo.

Now, I have to say that they are complete opposites. And they both have very distinct and different personalities. Boomer is the alpha. He is bossy, outgoing, rough, stubborn, and has a very all-about-me demeanor.  Lenny is timid, quiet, kind, and so graceful. Boomer loves to cuddle and sleep all day and Lenny never sits still and loves exploring. Boomer's favourite things are snuggling, eating, and playfighting. Lenny's favourite things are fur brushes, boxes, and looking outside.

Their personalities are both so undeniable that we can't help but treat them like people. Mike is so good at imitating both of them and bringing their "voices" to life. In our little crazy cat world, Boomer and Lenny both have jobs. Boomer is an all-star baseball player and Lenny is the coach and general manager of the Cat Baseball Team. Boomer hits a home run every at-bat but then lies down on the plate because he is too lazy to run the bases and falls asleep. Lenny loses his mind every time because it doesn't score a run. It's a serious issue.

An actual conversation:
L: "Did you see Grumpy Cat throw out the first pitch at the Diamondbacks game?"
B: "Yeah it was awful"
L: "Yeah well I think maybe I should sign him. We need pitching and we could use some publicity for our team."
B: "No. I'm the star. You sign Grumpy Cat and I quit. I'm not playing on the same team as Grumpy Cat. He's always mad."
L: "You are such a baby. Fine we won't sign him. I wasn't actually going to. I was just trying to get you riled up."
B: "Why are you doing this to me Lenny. I'm old. I don't need jokes about Grumpy Cat getting signed. Next time you joke about it... bite."
L: "You're not going to bite. I am just going to run away. I'm faster than you. Always have been!"

So yeah. That's pretty much them on the regular. I love them both so very very much.

Hello hello! How was your weekend?

Over the weekend, the world around me changed from summer to fall. The temperatures dropped and it rained all three days. I said goodbye to my sandals and light dresses and hello to sweaters, boots, and scarves. Literally.

Since it was so clearly autumn on the outside, I got the urge to bring it inside too. You know what that means! Fall decor! Can I be a typical blogger for a second and proclaim my love for fall? I love everything about it and wish it could be September and October all year long.

I'm not fully done yet, but here's a little sneak peak.

Mike played two softball games in the rain and I was cozied up under an umbrella and blanket. They were the last games of the year so I really wanted to come out and show my support. What are we going to do on weekends now? I always feel such a void when his seasons come to an end.

Saturday was UNC's first home game and we were glued to the TV to watch. I was happy to not actually be at the game since I'm pretty sure it poured there too. I think Mike is successfully making a fan out of me because I was ecstatic every time they scored a touchdown! Boomer was really interested too.

On Sunday we spent some time at the mall, cleaning, grocery shopping, and of course, watching more football. But don't worry. I squeezed some Big Brother and Miss America in there too.

See you tomorrow for more fun and excitement!
